A diagnostic technician is a trained specialist who evaluates and analyzes technical equipment. After inspection is complete, the trained specialist will often perform required repairs or services. The technician typically performs procedures involving such equipment as well. Some of the equipment the diagnostic techn examines may include medical and laboratory equipment, engines, and other mechanical parts. Jobs that involve technical work may include radiology diagnostic technician or mechanic diagnostic technician.
An ultrasound diagnostic technician may perform ultrasound procedures and complete a performance evaluation of any machine he has worked on. This job may include writing a detailed analysis on a routine basis. Prior experience as a medical sonographer is typically required.
Most any cardiac diagnostic tech will perform work related directly to cardiac care and equipment. Analyzing equipment such as holster monitors and electrocardiogram equipment will be a fundamental aspect of the job. The skilled professional will typically have certification as a cardiographic technician. Most often, the technician involved in cardiac diagnostics will also have certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
The radiology diagnostic technician will have skilled training to perform radiographic procedures. He will also be familiar with various techniques of radiology and knowledge of machinery and how it functions. He will be able to diagnose issues within the equipment that may impair performance. This technician will keep records of radiographs taken, and have expert computer skills as well. Many radiologist technicians will supervise other technicians.
A diagnostic diesel technician has specialized training in diesel engines and repair. He will be able to adequately perform evaluations and repair work on transmissions, brakes, and engines. Generally, this type of technician will have a few years of experience in diesel mechanics. He may work independently or as part of a mechanics team.
An automotive technician will generally work on preventive maintenance, diagnostics and repairs of car and truck engines. He will be able to diagnose problems within the automobile's system and fix them. Typically, the auto mechanic diagnostic tech will perform safety inspections, and be able to install equipment or parts as necessary.
Heating and cooling diagnostic technicians do evaluation and repair work directly related to heating and cooling systems. The technician may repair and maintain air conditioning units, vents, or filters. These professionals will maintain ventilation systems in commercial and residential property. The technician will be trained in professional installation, as well as performing safety inspections.
